The lago Angitola or lago dell'angitola is a lake in the province of Vibo Valentia, in the municipality of Maierato. The Lake covers an area of about 1.96 km ² and is located in the far south of the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia, about 3 km from the Sea (Costa degli Dei). It was created in 1966 by crossing the river Angitola, from which it takes its name. In 1975 the Lake area has been recognized as a natural oasis and entrusted to the WWF Calabria. Since 1985 has been defined as a wetland of international importance. The Lake area, although not contiguous to it, falls within the perimeter of the regional natural park of the greenhouses. In addition, the Lake of Angitola and dunes of Angitola are two sites of Community interest recognized by the Ministry of the environment. Around the Lake are prevalent olive groves and Mediterranean maquis. There is also a strip of Aleppo Pine reforestation. On the shore there are specimens of black poplar, white willow, alder, cattails straws, eucalyptus and cork oak.
