The Dolomites are a mountainous group of the eastern Alps, in Italy, conventionally bounded to the north by the Rienza and the Pusteria Valley, to the west by Isarco and the Adige with the valley of the same name, south from Brenta from which the Lagorai Chain is detached on the border with the Val di Flames and to the east from the Piave and the Cadore. The Dolomite area extends between the provinces of Belluno, which constitutes the most important part, Bolzano, Trento, Udine and Pordenone. On 26 June 2009, the Executive Committee of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, meeting in Seville, declared the Dolomites a World Heritage Site. Some of the best-known holiday resorts in the Dolomites are: Cortina d'Ampezzo in the Conca Ampezzana, Auronzo di Cadore-Misurina in Val d'Ansiei, Pietore-Marmolada in the Pettorina Valley, Selva and Ortisei in Val Gardena, Dobbiaco and Sixth in Val Pusteria, Castelrotto at the foot of the Alpe di Siusi, Canazei and Moena in the Val di Fassa, Falcade in the Valley of Biois, St. Martin of Castrozza in the Primiero, Arabba in the Valley of Livinallongo, Corvara, La Villa, San Cassiano, Badia in Val Badia, Madonna of Campiglio in Val Rendena and Forni di Sopra in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
