The Lago del Turano is an artificially created Lake on the edge of the basin of Rieti, in the Lazio region. At 536 metres above sea level, the Lago del Turano is a large hydroelectric reservoir built on the River with a dam built in 1939 near the village of winter sunset and Stipes. About 10 km long and with a perimeter of about 36 km, is connected to the Lago del Salto by a 9 km long tunnel and along with that feeds the hydroelectric power station of Cotilia, part of the hydroelectric complex of Terni by e.on, which releases then the waters upstream in the city of Rieti which both Velino, the confluence of the jump and Turano which in their natural course you enter in the Velino the first just before the village of Rieti and the second at the Rieti Valley in the plain of Rieti. Relaxing at the foot of Mount Navegna (1506 m), a wooded nature reserve, and is characterized by the presence on its shores of ancient villages and castles that are reflected in the clear waters. In the middle of Lake face each other, the first on a peninsula and the other on a rocky Summit, the two towns of Castel di Tora, Colle di Tora and whose names were changed in 1864 in honour of the ancient city sabina of Tora. The other countries bordering the Lake are Ascrea and Paganico Sabino.
