Macerata is 315 metres above sea level on a hill facing north on the Potenza Valley and to the South the Chienti. Macerata has a historic centre surrounded by ancient walls, while on the slopes of the hill towards the plain, there are the modern neighborhoods. Famous for its University where is the Faculty of law and the Accademia dei Catenati. His prints are very clear that you can still see many Roman ruins and several buildings. By the medieval period are the Church of Santa Maria della Porta and the door. The city is characterized by a certain quality of life that still makes it one of the most liveable cities thanks to many green points located in different areas: the gardens of Italy, Villa Lauri Diaz, and several small green spaces that are present in all parts of town. In 2006 work began on the construction of connecting passageway between Two "sources" and "Fontescodella"; the work was completed in late 2007 and the opening took place in November 2008. This work, the most important in decades, faster traffic flow between Potenza Valley to that of Chienti, avoiding to cross the city's urban area.
