The Alcantara Valley is located in eastern Sicily. Refers to a territory that, in tourism or social boundaries maldefiniti; by cons in naturalistic field it indicates a very specific geographic area: the "catchment area" of the Alcantara river. Its maximum altitude is the Summit of Etna, i.e. 3330 metres. The extension of its surface is approximately 570 km ² large enough among the Sicilian catchments. Other high points are: mount glue with 1611 m and the big mountain with 1374 m; the latter is the highest peak of the Peloritani. The land of our basin, from an administrative point of view, fall into the province of Messina (12 municipalities) and Catania (3 municipalities), in which the territories (not the capitals) of fifteen municipalities. Within the basin of the Alcantara is very important in naturalistic landscape; among them are of particular note: the path of the River, mount Moio Alcantara gorges in places Fondaco Motta, lago Gurrida, volcanic caves of the northern sector of Etna and the wooded areas.
