Chianti hills are a short mountain range between the provinces of Florence, Siena and Arezzo that mark the eastern boundary of the Chianti region with the Arno Valley and Val di Chiana. The highest peak is the Monte San Michele (893 metres a.s.l.) in the town of Greve in Chianti, in the province of Florence. The remaining territory is hilly and the municipalities in this area form part of the production area of Chianti DOCG red wine. Chianti hills are structural in origin, or ancient mountains eroded away by weathering.
