The Sila plateau is located in the northern part of the region of Calabria. It covers 150,000 acres (the biggest in Europe) through the provinces of Cosenza, Crotone and Catanzaro. Is divided (from North to South) into the Sila Greca, Sila Grande and Sila Piccola and the highest are: mount Botte Donato (1,928 m), Monte Nero (1881 m), Monte Curcio (1788 m), Monte Gariglione (1765 m), Monte Femminamorta (1723 m), Monte Vanam (1710 m), Mount Pettinascura (1689 m), Monte Carlo Magno (1669 m), Monte Scuro (1633 m) and Monte Reventino (1417 m). Sila has entered the collective imagination for large snowfalls, the stable presence of wolves, the seasonal mushrooms and for its beautiful lakes. It is the oldest national park of Calabria, the first 5 were born in Italy. Every year in October we celebrate the traditional festival of the fungus they participate mycologists, politicians, businessmen, local administrators and tourists from all parts of Calabria.
