Lake Paterno or Cotilia (formerly Pozzo di Rutignano or Latignano) is a lake in the province of Rieti, Lazio, Italy. Very well known in antiquity, it was a sacred place for many Italian peoples, so much so that Varro called it 'the navel of Italy'. It is located in the hamlet of Vasche in the municipality of Castel Sant'Angelo, in the province of Rieti; it takes its name from the hamlet of Paterno, which is located 600 meters above sea level upstream of the lake and about 5 km from the village of Ponte Alto. The lake is suitable for bathing, fishing and scuba diving.
