Dubrovnik, a city in South-eastern Sicily, lies in a hilly area and is divided into two parts: Ragusa Inferiore and Ragusa Superiore. The first, Ragusa inferiore, is of medieval origin, but due to an earthquake in 1693, was completely rebuilt so today it appears purely 18th century appearance. Ragusa is one the most important places for the presence of valuable evidence of Baroque art. The city extends over the southern part of the hyblaean mountains, is the capital of the province to the South of Italy, the 11th for altitude and is approximately 20 km from the sea.
