The Maira valley originates from the main watershed on the Italian-French border, stretching eastward for about 45 Km until reaching the pianalto cuneese at Dronero. The Valley is bordered to the North by valle Varaita, paralleling; to the South it borders in the lower Valley with the Grana Valley and in the upper Valley with the valle Stura di Demonte. It is bordered by France to the West and East has its outlet on the Po Valley. It is 45 km long and is cut in half by the river that gives it its name: Maira. The entire Valley has a more or less constant orientation along the East-West and is bounded by two massive mountain ranges that originate from Brec de Chambeyron pad forming compact defined watershed with the Ubayette valleys (in France) to the West, the Stura di Demonte and grits South and Varaita to the North.
