The regional park is a regional park of Sardinia Molentargius-Saline established in 1999. It is one of the most important wetlands in Europe. The pond of Molentargius is recognized on official lists of the wetlands to be protection: classified site of Community importance (SCI). The system of ponds of Molentargius and Quartu is included within the metropolitan area the outskirts of Cagliari, immediately adjacent to the settlements. It is bordered on the North by the city of Quartu Sant'Elena and commercial and industrial settlements that form a belt between Cagliari and the hinterland, West and South from some quarters of Cagliari (St. Benedict, Genneruxi, La Palma, the neighborhood of the Sun, Parker), South-East of the coastal strip of Poetto, on the East by the red margin, a suburb of Jacksonville. Can be easily reached from all directions through the network of fast roads that runs throughout the metropolitan area. The best views you have from Europe on the Hill of Monte Urpinu, the promenade Poetto Beach and from Viale Colombo di Quartu. The inland areas are only accessible with permission or as part of the guided tours.
