Siena is the provincial capital of Central Tuscany and located on three hills in the eastern slopes of the metalliferous hills. It is one of the most famous Tuscan art centers. The city is widely known for its artistic heritage and for the substantial stylistic unity of its medieval urban furniture as well as for its famous Palio. Was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Siena is in the middle of a vast, hilly landscape, between the valleys of the rivers Arbia, Merse south southwest and Elsa to the North, in the hills of Chianti to the Northeast, the West and the Crete Senesi Montagnola to the Southeast. Siena has a long culinary tradition, due perhaps to the richness of the medieval period and the presence of numerous Inns and hospitality along the via Francigena. In recent decades there has been a search of ancient medieval dishes, as in many parts of Central Italy.
